SMU Celebrates Homecoming
Cox alumni, students, faculty and staff enjoyed SMU's Homecoming celebration October 25-28.
The festivities began on Thursday with the University's Distinguished Alumni Awards, and all three Distinguished Alumni honorees are part of the Cox community: Jeanne Tower Cox (BBA '78), James H. "Blackie" Holmes III (BBA '57) and Paul B. Loyd, Jr. (BBA '68), member of the Cox Executive Board.
Saturday, fellow Cox alum Blake Mycoskie, TOMS Shoes "chief shoe giver," served as grand marshal of the Homecoming Parade.
Also on Saturday, the Cox Alumni Association Board of Directors (pictured above) held its fall meeting and welcomed a new chair, Paul Divis (MBA '99), and vice chair, Katy Thomas (BBA '07). After hearing updates from MBA and BBA Admissions, Marketing and Communications and Dean Al Niemi, board members joined the Dean's Tailgate on the Boulevard and went on to watch SMU defeat Memphis, 44-13.
If you haven't made it to the Dean's Tailgate yet this fall, you still have the chance on November 24. It's the place to be on the Boulevard—thanks to sponsors like Corner Bakery, Joe's Crab Shack, Central Market, McKesson, Xioss, Chili's, Andrews Distributing, Coca-Cola and Hotel Lumen—and a great way to connect and stay involved with the SMU Cox community.

Belief and Risk: The Influence of Religion on Mutual Funds
In new research, SMU Cox Finance Professor Johan Sulaeman and co-authors find that the impact of religious beliefs on mutual fund volatility is economically significant.
In October, SMU Cox welcomed a delegation of administrators from Vietnam National University (VNU) in Ho Chi Minh City. Dedman School of Law Professor Xuan Thao Nguyen facilitated a similar visit to SMU three years ago, and Linda Kao (BBA '78), assistant dean for global programs at Cox, visited VNU herself in 2010. When VNU's new president, Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, joined the university recently, the VNU administrators requested to visit SMU Cox again to learn more about our programs and processes and to explore the possibility of future collaboration.
